2025 Elections

The City of Kuna provides an election process that is open, fair, and responsive to the needs of all eligible citizens. We constantly strive to increase the accessibility and efficiency of the services we provide.

Election Information:

Elections for City Council are held every two (2) years with two (2) of the four (4) seats up for election. Election of the Mayor is held every four (4) years. City Council members and the Mayor serve four-year terms of office. 

The 2025 election for two (2) City Council seats will occur on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November 2025 (November 4, 2025).

The Declaration of Candidacy period is Monday, August 18, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. through Friday, August 29, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. The Declaration of Candidacy form must be turned into the Kuna City Clerk's Office located at 751 W. 4th Street, Kuna, Idaho 83634. If the candidate wishes to submit the Declaration of Candidacy signed by not less than five (5) registered qualified electors, the form must first be verified by the Ada County Elections Office located at 400 N. Benjamin Lane, Boise, Idaho 83704 prior to submittal at the Kuna City Clerk's Office. If the candidate wishes to pay the non-refundable filing fee of forty dollars ($40.00) then the form is only submitted at the Kuna City Clerk's Office.

Candidate Requirements & Information:

A candidate has to declare that he/she is a qualified elector and the qualifications of a registered elector are as follows:
  • Resident of City
  • Registered voter
  • Eighteen (18) years old

The candidate has to file a completed Declaration of Candidacy accompanied by one of the following:

  1. Petition of Candidacy signed by not less than five (5) registered qualified electors;
    or 
  2. A non-refundable filing fee of $40.

MAYOR & COUNCIL SEAT ELECTIONS ARE HELD IN NOVEMBER, CANDIDATES ASSUME OFFICE THE FOLLOWING JANUARY.

Declaration Of Election*

Idaho State Code §50-405 (2)(a) Provides:

No city with a population of less than one hundred thousand (100,000) shall hold a city election for an office if, after the deadline for filing a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for the office, it appears:

(i)   For the office of mayor, only one (1) person has filed a declaration of candidacy or a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate;
(ii)  For the office of city council member in cities that have established designated seats, as provided in section 50-707, Idaho Code, only one (1) person has filed a declaration of candidacy or a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for a particular seat up for election for a two (2) year term or a four (4) year term; or
(iii) For the office of city council member in cities that do not have designated council seats as provided in section 50-707, Idaho Code, the number of people who have filed a declaration of candidacy or a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate is equal to or fewer than the number of council positions up for election for a two (2) year term or a four (4) year term.
(b)  If the provisions of paragraph (a) of this subsection have been met, the city clerk shall declare such candidate elected. The candidate shall receive a certificate of election and be installed at the first city council meeting in January following the election.
