Economic Development is the process of improving a community’s economic well-being and quality of life, focusing on increasing wealth, jobs & opportunities, not just increasing GDP. It involves strategic initiatives in infrastructure, education, workforce training and fostering business growth to build a resilient and prosperous community.
All in all , it is more than just growth. While economic growth (like GDP) is important, economic development is broader, encompassing social, environmental and pollical improvements. It focuses on how wealth is distributed, aiming for shared prosperity and opportunity, not just overall economic expansion.

Strengthening communities takes strategy – and a little chaos management. Economic development professionals attract investment, support local business, & help build a vibrant, resilient economy.
Think of Kuna as a giant tub of ice cream... Economic Development makes sure there's enough scoops for everyone, plus exciting new flavors to keep things sweet and satisfying.
- More Scoops for Everyone - As businesses open, jobs are created - more jobs mean people can afford their favorite ice cream. No one leaves empty-handed.
- Faster Ice Cream Machines... Economic growth brings better roads, internet and utilities - it's like upgrading from a retro hand-crank to a commercial machine.
- Extra Sprinkles... With more money in the community, you can can add "sprinkles" like parks, hospitals and more. Life feels sweeter with extra toppings!
- Unique Flavors... Supporting local businesses keeps things special - instead of boring vanilla, you get homemade huckleberry swirl that only your town knows about.
- Ice Cream Fund... Economic Development makes sure there's enough scoops for eveyone, plus exciting new flavors to keep things sweet and satisfying.
- No Melted Mess... When people have jobs and feel secure, there's less stress and crime - no one's fighting over the last scoop because there's plenty for everyone.
- Instagram-Worthy Sundaes... A thriving town looks amazing - clean streets, fun events, happy people. It's like posting the perfect sundae pic and everyone saying, "Wow, I want to go there!"
Through thoughtful planning and community-focused projects, our economic development team is focusing on keeping Kuna’s signature flavor - supporting homegrown businesses, welcoming new “flavors”, growing our tax “ice cream fund” and sprinkling in improvements that brighten everyday life.
We’re building stability, boosting hometown pride and helping our community shine a little brighter each day. In short, it’s all about creating a stronger future!
- Spend Money Locally
- Buying from local shops, restaurants, coffee shops, markets & service providers keeps money circulating in the community! Local businesses are more likely to hire local people & every dollar spent locally tends to recirculate through wages, taxes & reinvestment.
- Leave positive online reviews, share businesses on social medial & attend grand openings or ribbon cuttings.
- Participate in Community Planning & Feedback
- Citizens help staff & decision-makers shape long-term development by showing up & speaking up - attend meetings & workshops or respond to surveys.
- Well thought out responses can help guide investment in transportation, parks, business areas & job-creation strategies. Opinions have the strongest foundation when they’re based on a good understanding of local laws.
- Invest in Yourself
- A city’s economic strength is tied to the capabilities of its workforce.
- Take a refresher course, learn a new skill or pursue your passion! This not only increases personal opportunities but also strengthens the local talent pool.
- Vote
- Local elections influence zoning, infrastructure, education, transportation, taxes & business regulations which are all economic drivers.
- Voting is one of the simplest ways to steer the future of Kuna.
